Well folks, it was Spring Break for our younger kids and the older ones had Friday off of work, so we piled in 2 cars and headed south…..to IOWA!! It wasn’t a beach, but we enjoyed the temps near 70!! We saw green grass too! Terribly exciting, I know!!
We rolled into town Friday afternoon…this beautiful bridge greeted us as we crossed the Mississippi river!!
Friday night we enjoyed a delicious home cooked dinner of steaks, mashed or baked potatoes and a make your own salad bar!! We have so many great memories dining around that table every year! It seems as though we just keep adding more people each year!!
After dinner we had some intense games of UNO ! Son #2 was the big winner! Here he is giving Grandma a few tips or maybe he’s just smack talking with her!
On Saturday, after filling up on the FREE CONTINENTAL breakfast at the motel, we ventured over to the bowlin’ alley for some good old fashioned fun. It was declared that the contest would be guys vs. girls. Why is everything a competition in this family? As you can see, the guys were very serious about this competition, and they won by the way- those turkeys!
We had dinner out on Saturday night…we were eating just before the Wisconsin vs. Kentucky game!! What an amazing game it was! It took me 2 hours to get to sleep that night, I was so wound up!
Folks on the news claimed that it was a “blood moon.” I tried my best to get a good picture, but nothing compared to seeing it in person!!
Sunday morning we had breakfast at church- scrambled eggs, sausage and danish. Some people in my family, (ahem) had breakfast both at the motel AND at church. Shhhhhhh….don’t tell anyone! Piggies!!
It’s kind of a big deal when our whole family goes to church in Iowa– we take up a whole pew- and we’re LOUD singers too! We love visiting this little church- the church where Hubby and I were married almost 25 years ago. The people are genuine and so welcoming!! When the kids were little, they thought it was so COOL that at Gma and Gpa’s church they had a book with the songs in it! They thought this was a new concept! Ha, ha!!
After the service, we took our annual picture at the front of the church. Surprisingly, there was no standing on tippee toes to see who was the tallest amongst the boys. I think they admit that Son #3 (in the light gray polo shirt & shorts) IS the tallest and will always be the tallest.
So many fun times on this ROAD TRIP!!
But the BEST was seeing these two precious people!!
Thanks for a great time, Gma and Gpa!!
I enjoyed your trip, also. The bridge is always a welcoming site. You know that you are very near your destination. The dinner at home looks delicious. As well as the dinner in town. Great picture of the family and of Grandma and Grandpa. I know that they loved seeing everyone and, plus, the Uno games and the bowling are always a good time. Glad that you all enjoyed your trip!
