What if I told you that things in your life that happen don’t cause your feelings. Would you believe me?
That car in traffic that cuts you off isn’t making you mad.
Your kids, that won’t get their shoes on, aren’t making you frustrated.
Rain on a pool day isn’t making you sad. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Here’s the deal. All of the circumstances in your life are neutral. It’s what you say to yourself or what you think that’s causing your feelings.
- Remember the car cutting you off? Here’s what you’re saying in your head to make you mad. ” He’s not supposed to cut in, he needs to wait his turn- it’s not fair!”
- Being frustrated when the kids won’t get their shoes on causes thoughts like ” I want to go get in the car now, and they’re taking forever! Why can’t they just get their shoes on quickly??”
- Feeling sad because it’s raining on your pool day comes from a thought like ” I wanted to see my friends and have fun in the pool and now I can’t.”
All of your emotions, Happiness, Doubt, Sadness, Overwhelm, and Anger, are coming from stories in your mind. What we think about is what creates our emotion.
These thoughts come so quickly that it feels like something outside of us is causing the emotion, but it’s just a story you’ve made up about a fact.
When you are aware of what you’re feeling, take the time to listen to the thought or the story that’s playing in your mind. Do you want to stick with the story that’s causing that feeling? If not, change the story about the fact and you will feel a totally different emotion.
Manage your mind to feel more contentment, happiness, and gratitude each day- and I can show you how!!
I’m here for you!!
