This week in the De-cluttering Challenge, Mary asked us to de-clutter our Master Suite. Because we totally over-hauled our bedroom this past summer, this was one of the easier challenges for me. Or goal was not only to change the wall colors, but to simplify our bedroom to make it easier to clean and just to be a more relaxing space. We’ll start with what the bedroom looked like before the makeover…
Not too much clutter, but a lot to dust! With the flower swag over the french doors and all of the nick-knacks, it was a pain to dust in my room! and YES, I still love how this room looked, but it had been 10 years since it had been updated! This is the view from the door.
Check out that bed….hoo wee, there’s a lot of patterns going on there!! and would you just get a look at the pile of magazines and books under my nightstand?? Yeah, if I wasn’t careful, an avalanche would occur!! I needed a solution to that problem !
Welcome to the AFTER pictures!!
We painted the walls chocolate brown to update the room. I also decluttered the knick-knacks- I went with just a few larger pieces instead keeping several smaller pieces on the armoire and dresser. Easy peasy to dust!
Here is the view of the bed. We chose a neutral comforter so we could change the pillows seasonally.
Where did the books go?? Good question! After sorting through the books and magazines, I switched out the night stand from across the room and put the books in the bottom drawer! Out of sight, out of mind, but still very accessible.
Fast forward to this week…and this is what our shared closet looked like.
This is my husbands end of the closet….bless his heart, he lets me have the longer side for my clothes!
Now check out the floor….shoes scattered, some clothes on the floor…I had work to do, for sure!
Now check out my side…especially the shelves. Clutter, clutter, everywhere! (Sorry I didn’t get the whole shot of my side!)
I worked hard and got the shelves on my side dealt with…
Then I worked on Hubby’s side…
I eventually snapped a photo of my whole side (almost) of the closet… I’m happy!
and Hubby’s side….
and last, but not least, the other side of the closet! We keep 2 rolling hampers there (Whites & Darks.) I also use that wall to store my necklaces!
Still trying to figure out a place for dry cleaning. Right now hubby’s shirts sit on the floor next to the “white clothing” hamper, just waiting to be driven to the drycleaner. Do you have a solution for that?? I’m all ears!!!!
Had a suggestion for the dry cleaning. You have wall space so hang a command hook on the wall next to the whites laundry bin and hang a cloth laundry bag (the kind with the cinch close drawstring). Your dry cleaning items go in the bag and you just unhook from the wall and cinch closed when it is time to take to the cleaners. Hanging in the bag on the wall keeps it tidy, organized and off the floor. Let me know what you think.
Love the suggestion! I just wondered if it would be too heavy with all of the shirts. I would love to just grab the bag and go! Thanks, Gina!
it looks great. I love the change of color it looks really nice. I am jealous of how large your closet is.
Thank you, Aprila! It was nice to make a change! Happy De-cluttering!
