Can you even believe that the moons aligned just right and Hubby and I found ourselves at home, ALONE, all weekend? Yeah, you might wanna read that again! Yes, ALL of the kids were
banished out and about with friends all weekend and there we were, looking blankly at each other wondering what to do all weekend! While we should have taken the doggies to Gma & Gpa’s house and “got outta dodge,” we decided to be practical and get some stuff done around our house and the new house!
~Friday~
Friday nights at our house typically go the same way…Hubby comes home, we eat dinner and then we fall into the couch to relax after a long work week! Our usual diet of Shark Tank & Dateline hits the spot!
Just to shake things up a little, I decided to run out and get take out Chinese food. Curry chicken was his pick, and I got my usual Chicken Almond Ding! I just love the name of that- everything sounds better with a “DING” at the end!
We ran out to our new house to check on things and stopped off at the Dairy Queen because, Hello?, It’s Friday and that’s what WE DO on Friday nights, just ask my kids!!
After arriving back at home, we popped in a movie that we’ve been wanting to see, but have avoided it because it was rated R – American Sniper! Action and Adventure is usually not my thing, but I sat glued to the tv for 2 hours! It was so good! Of course I knew how the movie was going to end, but I thought the ending was well done, respectful and YES, my mascara did run a little bit!
After a relaxing morning, we went out for lunch at Wendy’s and then entered “Man World”a.k.a. Menards. Our builder had sent us to a very expensive lighting store, where we could possibly eat up our lighting budget and owe lots of extra $$$$. Well, we decided that after purchasing 32 light fixtures and staying waaaayyyy under budget, Menards was a very nice place to shop and they had fixtures that we loved!! Just look at all of the choices!
You thought I was kidding about the 32 light fixtures, right?? oh yes, we bought a few ceiling fans and a dehumidifier too. Did I mention that there was an 11% rebate that day? Yeeeeeeesssss!
After our exhausting Menards trip, we stopped at home, drank a little water and loaded up the pups and headed to the new house. Yes, it took two cars to get everything out there. This was my view as we drove to the new house. Bella loves to “GO BYE BYE IN THE CAR!” Lips and ears were flapping!!
At dinnertime, I had a chance to use my mad culinary skills (ha) and whipped up some chicken quesadillas and homemade guacamole. Oh my, the guac disappeared SO FAST!!
It was a special meal because guess what? This (below) is the first tomato from our garden! Woo Hoo!
No more styrofoam tomatoes for us!
It was a nice night so we sat out on our patio and chilled. The pups did too. I’d love to say that we solved all of the world’s problems and had some very deep conversations, but we didn’t. When you’re old, and have been married quite a few years, it’s ok to sit in silence…together.
We did throw the ball around for Bella just a little…
As the sun went down, we took a little walk through the neighborhoods.
Here we are after the sweaty walk. The mosquitoes weren’t too bad! Did I even put makeup on that morning?? Sure can’t tell!!
~Sunday~
We were out the door Sunday morning by 8:45 to head to our life group and then to church.
Before we knew it, all of our boys were back home again around noon, and little Sweet Pea came home later that evening!.
We enjoyed a little taste of what it will be like to have an empty nest. It felt weird, really weird, but in a good way!!

Whoa! You had your first tomato??? Ours are still green, but then again, our plants look like a forest and no telling what might be hiding in there. Glad you had a good week-end. And it sounds like the kids all had fun with their adventures. Good times!
I just love to read people’s day / weekend recaps 🙂
Your pups are lovely!
