When my daughter came home from a sleepover raving about the breakfast she had there, I knew I had to get the recipe. This recipe is from my dear friend, Tamara- I’m so thankful she was willing to share her recipe, now I can make it at my home too!! Surprisingly, it’s an easy recipe to make, but the real fun comes when watching it bake!! Tamara tells me that this is her Aunt’s recipe and it’s a German Pancake…thus the name “Panakuken.”
**Note, you may want to make the Maple Butter first and let it chill in the fridge for a few hours before making the pancake.

Here’s what you’ll need for the Panakuken…
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Mix eggs, milk, flour, sugar and salt.
Now, take the 2 Tablespoons of butter and place in a pie plate, and place it in the oven until it melts. As soon as it is melted, swirl the butter around to coat all sides of the plate. It will look like this…
Add the mixture to the pie plate and bake for 20 minutes.
To entertain the hungry breakfast eaters, turn on the oven light and watch what happens! DO NOT OPEN THE OVEN DOOR WHILE BAKING!
After 20 minutes, you can take the pancake out and watch it deflate to normal size.
Here are the ingredients for the Maple butter…
Cream together the powdered sugar, butter, syrup and egg yolk. (save the egg white)
Save and beat the egg white until foamy. Add the two together, stir and CHILL.
Finally, spoon the butter onto the panakuken and ENJOY!! My friend recommends adding sliced bananas and strawberries on top! Also, a huge dollop of applesauce would be divine!~
