It all started when my realtor suggested I should buy some green apples, gather them in a bowl and display them on the island of our kitchen. I obliged, the pictures of the house were taken, and there I was left with 17 green apples in a bowl in the kitchen.
My mind quickly went to making an apple pie or two, but then I decided to try a new recipe and make some Crock-Pot applesauce!! (Printable recipe below)
Here are the ingredients that you will need:
My faithful helper used my Pampered Chef apple slicer to quickly rip through all 17 apples and I diced them up and put them in a big bowl. Check out her apron- she’s all serious about this cooking stuff!
After dicing the apples, add the cinnamon and sugar to the bowl. Mix thoroughly.
After mixing, load all of those apples into your Crock-Pot. (I used a liner so my clean up would be a breeze!)
Combine your water and lemon juice and pour over the apples. Again, mix it all up!
Do you like my blue nail polish?? It’s called “water park.” It makes me happy!
Put the lid on that thing, and go about your business! You can cook it on high for 3 hours OR cook on low for 6 hours. After cooking is done, I used a potato masher and squished up the apples into a pretty rough consistency- we like chunky applesauce!!
Place the applesauce in a big bowl, let it cool on the counter for awhile and then plop it in the fridge. Wa-Lah, homemade apple sauce!!
For your printing pleasure, here’s the recipe!!
- 4 lbs. tart apples, cored and sliced thin
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup water
- 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
- Mix apples (about 12 cups) with cinnamon and sugar and put into Crock-Pot
- Pour water and lemon juice over sliced apples.
- Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.
- When cooking is done, mash the apples with a potato masher to desired consistency.
- Let apple sauce cool on counter, then refrigerate.
It’s almost Fall and apple season is coming…..get out there and try this recipe!! It tastes really good over pancakes…not that I would know…..
Yum! I remember making half gallons of applesauce. Not just one, but many, every Fall. I thank the neighbors for their generous offer of “wind-falls”! We sure did appreciate the goodness of homemade applesauce.! Good work, girls!
