I’m not quite sure if this post belongs in the “Saving Money” category, but this is a way to gain extra money each month! Here’s how it works….for the next month, spend only paper money and collect the change in a jar, container, bag or whatever works for you. Hopefully by the end of the month, you will have about $30 of extra money in change!!
Case in point……..my 17 year old son had started a container of change, and when the container was overflowing, he dumped the change into a ziplock baggie and took it to the bank. We all looked at, and felt the coins in the baggie and as if this were some children’s party game, we quickly took turns estimating how much money the bag was worth. Anna, my 10 year old, looked at the bag and guessed a modest $20. The other boys wisely waited until I had taken a guess and then they chimed in with their estimate.
So……..what would you guess???????
One thing I must say from experience is, just make sure when you go to the bank and the teller dumps the coins into the counting machine, don’t have any weird things like buttons or paperclips mixed in with the coins. When the counting machine stops abruptly and then they have to stick various objects into the machine to dislodge the foreign objects, the tellers will give you the “stink eye,” and I know you wouldn’t want that to happen! Ah…..I digress….
My educated guess was $55.
Holy Cow……the total came to $74.21!!!! This was a very worthwhile experiment for my son!!! He will take the container back to his room and start fillin’ it up again!!
What would you do with an extra $30 a month??? One of my friends saves all of her change from the year, and spends it on souvenirs on their summer vacation!! Leave a comment and let me know how you would use the extra money!! Save it or spend it??
