Why I gave up Scrapbooking

Yep, I QUIT!!  After years and years of making scrapbooks, one day I just stopped.

Why did I make this decision after spending hundreds of dollars on all of the equipment, paper and actual books?

Because I found a better way to store pictures!

Here’s the scoop about scrap booking…

  • It was expensive.
  • It took huge amounts of time that I didn’t have with 4 kids under the age of 9.
  • It took lots of time to make a book for every child plus a family book. (Yes, that’s 5 books to work on!)
  • I felt really guilty when I got behind on the kid’s books.  A feeling that I was never going to catch up!

So, about 5 or 6 years ago, the scrapbook industry took a turn that I didn’t particularly like.  The trend was to adorn the pages with lots of decorative frills and things and only feature two or three pictures per page. That combined with my favorite scrap booking company closing down sent me into a hissy fit.  I couldn’t find the products that I needed to continue the way that I wanted to, so I QUIT.  Well, guilt got me again, but this time I was going to try something different.  I tried a digital scrapbook.  Man, I could drag and drop pictures and make book after book in no time, until one day one of my kids asked me for a picture to use in school. With scrap booking, I could have easily torn out the picture, made a copy, (if it hadn’t been cropped into a circle) and used it.  With the digital book, I had no physical copy to take out of the book- uh oh, I knew that I had a problem. I knew that digital scrap booking wasn’t for me!!

NOW, here’s the better way to store pictures that is less expensive, takes a fraction of the time and is VERY easy to keep up. Are you ready????

Organize your pictures by month on the computer.

Choose only the BEST/meaningful pictures and delete the rest. (Ouch, I know!)

4 times a year order reprints (every 3 months)

Slide pictures into sleeved albums chronologically.

These are the albums I use- they are pricey, so wait until the 40 % off sale!  They hold 960 photos per album!!

Charter, Over-sized, Extra Capacity Photo Album from Exposures. (Exposuresonline.com) Here’s a look!

This has been a life saver for me!  I know that by doing this I won’t be able to write down the memories associated with the pictures, but I’m sure I’ll always remember the stories, right?!  I suppose you could always buy the albums that have room for journaling!!  Have a GREAT week!!!!

I like your new albums, too. Reminds me of what we had in the 70’s and 80’s.
