Week in Review- June 6th, 2014

We had our son’s GRAND wedding celebration last weekend to start our week!  Whew!  Because we hosted the Rehearsal Dinner, Wedding Luncheon and the gift opening, I had to be super organized and thorough in planning!  Here are some of the pictures of the prep work before the wedding.

Here is a collage of some of the foods served at the Rehearsal dinner cookout on Friday!  Thankful that I had so much help with the food!  My southern friend said that no party is complete without a pound cake, so she whipped one up for us!  Amazing!!  My Mom pitched in by making 2 pans of homemade brownies (sorry, didn’t get a picture of those!)  Hubby grilled 25 brats, 25 burgers and 25 pieces of filet mignon!  (did I forget to mention that the weather was PERFECT?)  We served over 40 people Friday night and I think they all went home with full bellies!

Saturday, the day started early as Sweetpea and I had to be at the Salon by 9am.  We were pampered with make up and a some fancy, poofed, and perfectly coiffed hairdos!

The Wedding started at Noon on Saturday at our church. The bride and groom (my son) actually wrote and read their vows to each other- I seriously don’t know how they got through it!  The whole service was unique, touching, personalized and beautiful!  My parents were at the wedding, (as well as the bride’s Mom and Grandparents) and hubby’s parents were there too…via Facetime from Iowa.  Don’t ya just love technology??

During the wedding, I took the time to just sit and look around at the people there.  I have never felt so much love in one room.  All of those smiling faces. So many fond memories of the people there, knowing that these were the people that have shaped my son’s life and supported us!  It was inexplicable how I felt at the time!

After the wedding, the wedding party went to take some outdoor pictures and then they all came back to our house for some subs, chips and cookies!  The bride and groom scurried to a different park to take a few more shots and then met us at the reception hall.  It was certainly a busy day!

The reception hall was HUGE!  It’s amazing how they could transform a “fish fry” place into a beautiful and colorful party room.  During the “Grand March” the wedding party was introduced and they danced into the hall!

Dinner was served “buffet style” with plenty of choices for entrees, side dishes and desserts!

They celebrated with all of the typical traditions….the first dance, the mother/son dance, the mother/daughter dance and then we ALL boogied down!

During the cake cutting, the crowd loved it when my son smeared a little cake on his brides face!  Don’t worry, she got him back by wiping it right back onto his face!

The evening ended with us standing outside of the reception hall with sparklers, bidding them a last goodbye!

On Sunday, we had the gift opening at our house.  Here are some pics from the event!  Take note of the toilet paper that the best men in the wedding purchased for them!  I think they’ll be stocked up for awhile!

The wedding itself was a joyous occasion, but to see and hug family and friends made it EXTRA special!  Special thanks to those who drove from out of state to attend the wedding- it was greatly appreciated!

Here are a few more of my favorite pictures…

As for the rest of the week, well, we took it easy and recovered from all of the festivities!

See you next week!
